Indian big IT company Tech Mahindra implements automation in its BPO unit, and will lay off up to 5,000 employees come April 2021. The technology enables a single individual to perform tasks previously performed by several people. The IT service provider already laid off 2,500 employees by the end of last year. While automation leads to a significant decrease in employment, the company recognizes that embracing new technologies like analytics and artificial intelligence is crucial to deliver the expectations of its clients.
